Human Web cycle?

A Global case

Some years before - http://dmoz.org - Volunteers edited an Open directory for websites - Human & Non - Commercial.

Now - Google etc.., - Algorithms determine the search outcomes - Mechanical & Commercial.

Next - http://www.mahalo.com - First (Claimed so!) human search Engine (not a directory) - Expert searchers are hired to write search results pages for popular queries - To filter spam - Human & Commercial.

Is that a human web cycle? But it’s worth noting the non-commercial–>commercial nature of evolution of web irrespective of whether is it human or not!

A local case

2003 - http://www.tamilblogs.blogspot.com - Manual Listing of Tamil blogs - Human & Non-Commercial.

Now - Thamizmanam, Thenkoodu, TamilveLi, Tamilblogs - Automatic aggregation of Tamil blog posts - Mechanical & yet to find a revenue model.

Next ? - Maatru! - Human aggregation (not a directory listing) of Tamil blog posts - To filter spam, hate, junk Tamil blog posts - Human and never-for-profit collaborative model.

The sooner the Tamil websites find a revenue model the better. When money comes in, it leads to improvement in technology and content and brings in a healthy competition. May be when internet access gets better in Tamilnadu, things will change? Will this happen by 2010? 3 years is a lot of time for internet !!

Need to add gilli… and Desipundit too. They are also a long time human aggregators, formed well before maatru!

No poorna, technically, gilly & desipundit belong to a different category called memepool. see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memepool they cannot be considered as aggregators in structure and content.

//Memepool is a multiple-author weblog that lists links to interesting, obscure, weird, or funny items on the web along with a smattering of commentary. Items will often include multiple links whose contents conflict or comment on each other, in a fashion similar to the old sarcastic stylings of Suck.com. Postings to the blog are sporadic: sometimes several in a week, sometimes none for more than a month.//

    ??????????????????? ???????????? ??????? :-)
