NHM Converter, not like other converters, can convert any font group into many other font groups. It can convert Bamini, Diacritic, Shreelippi, Softview, Tab, Tam, TSCII, Unicode and Vanavil font group into another. For example, it can convert Bamini to TSCI. This conversion can be done by two steps only. After you paste some text (e.g.: Bamini text), simply click the desired font group (eg: TSCII text) at the Right hand side pull down menu then click ‘Convert’ button. That’s all.
Now your text has been converted to the desired font group. The steps have been simplified for the convenience of end users. You may encounter a problem where by the text might not be readable. You no need to worry if such problem occurs. It occurs because you haven’t done the setting under the Option menu. It may also occur if your computer is not installed with the indented fonts. You can 100 % sure that the conversion has been done even if you can read the text. Hence, you can send the text to readers without worry.
There is a bug that NHM haven’t come across I think. Let’s say you want to convert a word for example, let’s say you have a word அரசர் which has been typed in Baamini. If you convert into Unicode you will get like this: அரசர;. You can see the ர் appear as ர; .
However, I managed to correct this kind of error by using Search & Replace in MS Word. Hope this info useful.

i have been trying to generate simple tamil document (word 2007 / odt) giving all tamil letters அ ஆ இ ஈ…… க்ஷொ க்ஷோ க்ஷௌ. this is required to be generated in different well used tamil fonts (Latha, lohit, kamban, ilango, porunai etc) for generating training pages for Tesseract OCR. i used ekalappai for generating the basic Latha document; and used NHM / sarma’s or பொஙுகுதமிழ் converter to different encoding before changing fonts. This woked very well for unicode-tab, unicode-tam conversion.
since i found that DENUKA. khavina, malayamarutham fonts of Bamini family quite interesting, i thought of generating pages for these fonts aswell. however, the baamini family per se seems to lack ஞு ஙு, க்ஷ் letters. you can try the following:
அஆஇஈஉஊஎஏஐஒஓஔஃகுஙுஞுசுடுணூதுநுபுமுயுருலுவுழுளுறுனுஸுஷுஹுஜுக்ஷு (this is in unicode) whenever i paste this to any converter ஞு ஙு and க்ஷு go missing.
i tried suratha, sarma’s and also http://www.blogs.entamil.net/anycode2unicode.htm
for unicode to baamini but the same result.
when i opened the character set using “insert –> symbol” option in MsWord or insert special character in LibreOffice, i found there is no listing for ஞு ஙு or any of க்ஷ் க்ஷ க்ஷா… series

thanks for the reply; yes after seeing the character map i found out that these characters are not there at all and there is no mapping;
of all the font families, i found that Baamini has a better variety;
yes it is true that TAM family from publishing industry has some quirky looking fonts, but they are not cute. and also appear bad on the screen when sized up;
(you can get the same from மென்தமிழ் software.
i found only two fonts with classic glyphs ((லை றா னொ ); one by elmar kniprath (of indolipi E-tamilOT and E-TamilOTC) and other in code2000; but code 2000 has no proper glyphs for grantha ஹு ஷு etc they will appear as in பு and வு with down strokes!
E-tamilOTC is a nice looking font but with a small rendering bug; i wrote to elmar kniprath where he graciously accepted the bug and corrected it; the updated fonts are now available in indolipi site and i have sent them to you on gmail
as regards lohit (which is extensively used in Linux, as Latha is used in windows) i found that it fails to render ஸு, ஜு etc wrongly, they have glyph on the top instead on the side;
as regards OCR i will be completing the tamiltraineddata file in a week and post it in TESSERACT

perhaps people now may be aware that indian government in its wisdom has started blocking out the torrent sites; and surprisingly some blog sites are now blocked; i normally use techsatish.net which is now blocked; shockingly this (http://microblog.ravidreams.net/tamil-font-converters/) is also blocked; i wrote a mail to ravi about this; ;ater i talked to a senior guy in MTNL and he said many microblog sites are blocked as addresses for movie download sites are present there!
later i was able to contact a sensible mtnl employeee who passed a solution which can be used for accessing these blocked sites; unfortunately this solution is time bound (each day it would change) and is used for by mtnl for monitoring these sites!
using this solution, i am today able to access this page;
i am in the process of creating a set of fonts based on glyphs from bamini family of fonts; these fonts shall be open type and will come in two sets (new and classic);
my only worry in this is if i can use these glyphs? i found that they were originally made by MultiMedia in Toronto, Canada; but no email address is seen; as they are bamini fonts generated in 1995, i believe i can resurrect them now;
however, if any body has alternate ideas please let me know
